We started by stuffing the paper bags with paper. we painted the paper bags orange. We let them dry overnight and the next day we cut out eyes, a nose, and a mouthed and glued them onto our pumpkins.
We started by touching the pumpkin and coming up with adjectives to describe the outside of the pumpkin. Then we made some predictions and studied the pumpkin. We predicted how many lines it had and how many cubes tall it was. We predicted if it would sink or float and then placed it in water to find out. We opened the pumpkin and took turns scooping some seeds out and describing the inside of the pumpkin. Then we got out the clipboards and wrote down our findings.
Our small group lined up along photo cards and took turns hoping from one card to the next and saying the beginning sound of each picture as they hopped. We read an informational book about dinosaurs and then practiced moving like different dinosaurs. We learned that some moved quickly on two legs and some moved slowly on four legs.
we painted Papa Dinosaur from Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs. We are working on story elements and remembering that characters are the people or animals in the story. We are making all the characters so we can practice rebelling the story to a friend next week.
"I can read from left to right and I can read some words by sight" is something we chant and do every day. Then we read. We practiced reading the sentence "This is a dinosaur" and then partner read a book with the same sentence. We practiced pointing to each word we read (tracking print) and reading aloud. We have been practicing how to retell a story using our hand and using our retell ribbon. We have retold Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Chrysanthemum. We will continue practice this skill with different books all year. |
