Today our countdown continued with "B is for Bubbles". We first discussed what we know about bubbles and what we what to know about bubbles. Then we watched 2 videos about bubbles and learned the laws of bubbles.
Bubble Laws: 1. Bubbles act like prisms and reflect the colors of the rainbow. 2. Bubbles are wet and wet things won't pop bubbles. 3. Bubbles want to be a round and long to be spherical. Check out the interesting youtube videos on bubbles we watched: http://youtu.be/eV6Wh-KX3bY and http://youtu.be/wuVgXJ55G6Y Then we added the facts we learned about bubbles to our chart. We read a recipe about making bubble solution and followed the step by step directions to make our own solution. Then we made our own bubble wands and went outside to blow bubbles. Here is the recipe we used: 1 cup water, 2 Tbl Karo Syrup, 4 Tbl Dish soap. Gently mix the ingredients together and you have your own bubble solution. We are learning about insects in science lab with Mr. Flynn. We took turns looking at ants through the microscope and looking through a compound lens to see what an ant sees. We learned that ants have 3 body parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. They also have 6 legs. We also saw Mr. Flynn's ant farm.
We are learning the names of the 2D flat shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle, and hexagon) and 3D shapes (sphere, cube, cylinder, cone). We need to know how many sides and corners the 2D flat shapes have. We need to understand how the 3D shapes move (roll, slide, stack). We also need to be able to find and compare objects around us to the 3D shapes. Their are great websites for this under our math link for shapes. Look around your home and use the 3D names to describe objects, like a can of soup is a cylinder or the tissue box is a cube.
This week we are continuing to learn about life cycles. We spent time last week learning about the life cycle of frogs and this week we are learning about insects and some of their life cycles. We will learn about the life cycle of butterflies and ladybugs. Later we will learn about the life cycle of sunflowers and plant sunflowers for our garden. We also have caterpillars coming so we can observe their metamorphoses. In math we are continuing to learn about shapes and compare flat 2D shapes to 3D shapes and find 3D shapes around the room.

Mrs. LucianiWelcome to my page! I've been teaching Kindergarten in Albany for 7 years. I love to take photographs and capture our learning and finally created a place to share it. Enjoy! Archives
